Quality 1080p HD Conversions to Video Files and DVD

FILM CONVERSION SAMPLE - This video includes various samples of Super 8 film. Our conversions include color correction.

The Indianapolis Public Library is using Video MVP film, tape, and slide conversion services in order to provide access to content on out of date or difficult to use formats. Video MVP is very professional, does good work, and delivers on promises. They currently have about 400 VHS, Betacam, cassettes, DAT, audio reels, records, film reels, and slides they are converting over the course of the year. They are one of my go to vendors now. Highly recommend.

Video MVP Difference

In-House Digitization

All film digitization work is done here. We do NOT send your priceless films across the country for some other company to convert.

Frame-by-frame Conversions

Our frame-by-frame transfer process means no film flicker. There's no image area contact or sprocket damage.

HD 1080p Conversions

All our film conversions are full resolution HD 1080p. These files are much better quality than an SD conversion.

No Charge Editing

As part of our film digitization process, we go through and remove blank or completely overexposed scenes to make a more enjoyable video for you.

Color Correction

Our Premium Conversion film projects include free color correction. We go through your film looking for dark and off-color scenes. We'll apply video filters to improve the quality of your final video.

Any Size Reel

Your film reels are returned intact (not combined on larger reels). This helps you with identifying each reel based on notes that may be on your reels or boxes.

Final Video Options

For your final video, you have options! Choose from Video Files, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, or any combination of them.

Personal Attention

We understand how important your film memories are to you. We are happy to help with special requests to protect and preserve your film.

As a veteran nonfiction filmmaker, I know how expensive it can be to have 16mm or 35mm film prints transferred. Recently, I decided to digitize a 45-minute 16mm film I made 50 years ago as a student, as well as some audio cassettes holding rare interviews I recorded for a project 45 years ago. I took both to Video MVP, and they gave me professional results for a reasonable price. I will happily use them again as I continue to archive both personal and professional film, video, and audio materials.

Film Conversion FAQs

You have two options. When you choose the Premium Conversion for your film with video files, we will create a file for each of your film reels. The reels can be named with an overall name and then a sequence number, like "Davis Family 001". If you number your reels in order, you will have more organized files when complete.

The second option is custom file names. For example, reel 1 might be named "1968 Niagara Falls" and reel 2 might be "1972 Joe's 5th Birthday". Just type up your titles, listing them by reel number, and email it to us. We'll rename all your film files with your custom text at no charge. We also offer gathering the information from the notes on reels and boxes for the file names. There is an additional charge for this service.

Look at the film samples below. Notice that both film formats are the same width, but the 8mm reels have larger sprocket holes. 8mm film was an earlier technology than Super 8. So as you put your reels in order, most likely, the 8mm reels would be earlier in time.

To help determine the order, look for dates on the postmarks and film processing dates on the inside of the yellow boxes. Sometimes there are dates on the leader of the film. In general, larger reels tend to be earlier in time. When film was a new technology, people often took the time to splice the small reels together. As time went on, that became too time-consuming and many people stopped splicing their reels.

There are two options. You can choose a Cloud Delivery or USB thumb drive. For Cloud Delivery, we will upload your files to a secure location and email you a link so you can download them to your computer. This link is private and temporary, but you can share the link with whoever you like. Cloud Delivery is a good idea for large video files. If you prefer a USB drive, we will copy your files to the drive and return it along with your media.

Yes, we will print your disc(s) with any title you like. Consider including a family name like "The Gibson Family Films" or "The Albertson Trip to Alaska." After all, the goal is to preserve these film memories for future generations.

Yes. You can get Tips on Shipping Your Order or just get a Film to Digital Order Form to include with your film reels. When we receive them, we will give you a price quote and an estimated completion date. Need it done fast? Let us know your deadline and we'll do whatever we can to meet it.

More about No Charge Editing

After your film is digitized, we scrub through it. If we find a blank section or a section of film that is so overexposed you can't see anything, we cut it out. This makes your video more enjoyable! If you would like editing of the other content, we can do that too! If you want to share one reel or a clip of film with someone else, we can edit that section onto a separate disc or file (editing charges would apply).

Some Rare Film Formats We Convert Too

Bell & Howell Auto 8

Bell and Howell Auto 8

This cassette-style film cartridge holds one 50-foot reel of film. When the cassette was inserted, it would thread and play. At the end of the reel, it would automatically rewind.
Technicolor Magi-cartridge

Technicolor Magi-cartridge

This odd little cartridge holds Super 8 film and had to be played in a projector designed specifically for them. The cartridge works kind of like an 8-track tape where the film is on a loop and plays continuously.
Polaroid Polavision

Polaroid Polavision

Launched in 1977, this cassette holds Super 8 film and required a specific projector. The cassette was similar to a video tape in ease of use, however it only had about three minutes of film.

Bell & Howell Filmosound 8

Bell and Howell Filmosound 8

This product is Super 8 film, which is silent, but is accompanied by an audio cassette that contained the audio recording.
Filmopan Straight 8

Filmopan Straight 8

This little reel is only about 2 inches in diameter. It holds about 30 feet of 8mm film.

For my mom's 80th birthday we decided to to convert some very old reel to reel movies. What a wonderful surprise to find my parents wedding from 1961! We had no idea that this gem even existed. So many priceless memories found. We were all so blown away to see and hear my dad again. Best birthday gift ever. Thank you so much to Video MVP. Extremely helpful and professional. Highly recommend.

Film Memories Preserved

EDMUND FITZGERALD - This footage from the early 1970s is of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. For those who don't know, the "Fitz" sank during a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975. All 29 of her crew were lost. The legend of the freighter was made famous by the 1976 hit song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.

1969 INDIANA HS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - This film from the IHSAA archives features the championship game of Indiana's favorite sport. Led by George McGinnis, the Washington Continentals won the crown and ended with a perfect season.

INDIANAPOLIS 500 - This film has some great footage of this iconic track, the pits, cars, and spectators. Captured during May of 1949 qualifications, some of the cars include Johnnie Parsons, Duane Carter, Duke Nalon, Sam Hanks, and Rex Mays.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS - This 16mm film contains highlights of college football games in 1947. Much like you might buy a Blu-ray or a digital movie for your collection today, years ago people would order film reels (sports, cartoons, documentaries) for their home movie collections.
